The Best!

Drama 8:  (Answer after we see the fairy tale mimes). Which fairy tale mime was your favourite?  Explain why (give at least three reasons).  How did your own mime go?  Say at least one thing that went well and one thing that could have been better.

Drama 9:  Which of the first heritage stories did you think was the best?  Explain why (at least two reasons).  How did your own go?  Explain why.

Senior Drama:

Directors/Scriptwriters:  Come up with a premise for our upcoming Hallowe'en play.  It needs to make use of the concept of the "waiting room" (for what can that be a metaphor?) and be interactive with the audience.  Write at least one scene (each).

Theatre Production:  Come up with a concept for the set for "The Waiting Room".  What colour should the floor be?  Using stuff in the theatre, what will the set look like?  What will people wear?

Actors:  Write a brief (1 minute or so) monologue for a character you could play in "The Waiting Room".

The Waiting Room

Senior Drama:  Which two-minute, one-line, silent scene was your favourite?  Explain why (provide details.)

Let's imagine that "the waiting room" title is a metaphor.  What could it symbolize?  Explain.

Drama 9:  Whose heritage story have you decided to do first?  Why did you choose it?  Who will you play in the scene?  How will you create the character?  (Think of costumes, voice, physical presentation, etc.)

Drama 8:  Which fairy tale have you chosen to work on?  How did you make the choice?  Who are you playing?  Explain how you will make the character believable (costume, physical presentation, facial expression, etc.) What did you choose to present as the climax?  Why is it the climax?

I Hate You!

  Drama 8:

Angela lives in a blue house with her mom and her dad and her little dog, Percy.  Terry lives next door in a green house.  Terry's family doesn't like Percy, because he comes over to their yard and does his "business".  Terry's family hired Clifton to build a fence around their property to keep Percy out.  Percy dug a hole under the fence and got in Terry's yard anyway and not only did he do his business, but he dug up all Terry's mom's prize-winning roses.  Terry's mom was very upset and she even cried because she loved her roses.

The next day, Terry's dad came home with a very large dog.  The family put the large dog in the yard,  When Percy dug under the fence, the large dog was waiting for him and barked viciously and snapped at Percy.  Percy ran home and never dug under the fence again.

Answer these questions about the story:

1) Who is the main character ("the protagonist")?  Why do you think so?

2) What is the conflict?  What are two examples of rising action?

3) What is the climax of the story?

4) What is the denouement?

5) If you were going to be in a play based on this story, who would you want to play?  Why? Write one of the lines you would say.

Drama 9:

Have you ever told anyone you hated them?  If you have, describe the circumstances.  If you haven't, what would make you say that to another person?

Senior Drama:

We are thinking of doing our Hallowe'en play with a hospital setting.  What is your experience with hospitals?  If we call the play, "The Waiting Room", what does that make you think of?  (Describe in as much detail as you can.)

If you are in Performance, describe a character you could play in a hospital setting.

If you are in Production, what would the set look like?  (You can draw it.  Make sure you use colour.) What would the characters wear?  (We would need doctors, nurses, patients.)

If you are in Directing and Scriptwriting, write an interactive scene (using members of the audience, who won't know what to do) that could be part of the show.  I am thinking we will have a "triage" in the front alcove of the theatre, and the nurse will say rather rudely as audience members come in, "take a number.  We'll see you in good time."
