We're Havin' a Heat Wave

That's a great song by Irving Berlin and was featured in several movies and was performed by Ethel Waters and Marilyn Monroe.  Anyway, we're having one!  We have been advised that the school district is asking kids to stay home on Monday because it's so hot, so if you were going to pop in and give me journals or recite, let's do it on Tuesday.  (That's what the school is suggesting.)

I know several of you said you would come in on Monday at 11:20.  If you can, we can meet on Tuesday at the same time.  Just pop me an email if that's what you'd like to do.  Otherwise, give me an idea when you'll be able to come.

Be careful tomorrow.  It will be very hot, so you need to keep hydrated and stay in the shade.  The air quality is poor, too, so don't engage in any vigorous activity.  Read a book somewhere cool.

You are all "Top of the Form"

Here is the video for "Top of the Form" by both halves of the class!

Share it with your friends and families as you try to keep out of the heat this weekend.

Thank you all for a great quarter!  Goodbye to all the super-duper Grade 12's and I hope to see the rest of you back in the theatre for more next year!

Last minute checklist for Senior Drama

Check that you have done these things:

1.  Recited "Friends, Romans, etc."  -- just try it!  You can't do worse than 0!

2.  Written seven journals.  Make sure you do the one that was assigned on Friday and hand it in!

3.  Sketches (Theatre Production) for "After Liverpool" and "Top of the Form".  Did you do a logo for the WAG?

4.  Learn your lines for "Top of the Form".  Decide on a costume with your "team" (either Podmore or Kangarooboot).

I must submit your marks by noon on June 26!  Absolutely final marks are due on June 28.

Last journal of this crazy year!

Wow!  Here we are!  We're almost at the finish line!  Please make sure you finish up all your work -- journals, sketches, reciting, etc., before June 25 so we can have that great sense of accomplishment to take us into an "almost normal" summer.

Theatre Production!  Don't forget to do a sketch for your idea for the "After Liverpool" play, which many of you have not done!

Journal #7:

ALL:  What is one important lesson you have learned this year?

ACTORS:   What will you do to create the character you've been assigned in "Top of the Form"?  (If you don't have a lot to say, what else can you do to make the character real?  Think of at least two ways, and be specific!)

THEATRE PRODUCTION:  How do you envision the look of "Top of the Form"?  Include a sketch and a description.  You can write about sound and light as well.  How will we accomplish the end of the play?

DIRECTORS:

Your personal experience script:  Which actors in the class would you get to play the characters?  Explain why you choose them.

"Top of the Form" -- explain one of the jokes!  What do you think of the ending?

Offerings from SLSS Drama Club and Class

If you are in the mood for some online drama stuff, our spring play is available for viewing today and tomorrow only!

"After Liverpool" by James Saunders is a series of short scenes that explore modern relationships and our difficulties in communicating -- with friends, colleagues, acquaintances and loved ones!  It's funny and poignant and stars all the great performers you have come to love on our stage.   We have been given broadcast permission for a short period of time, so if you want to watch, move quickly before it disappears!  (June 16 and 17th!)

"A Galaxy Not That Far Away" is the senior drama class's take on a tour of the school with a Star Wars flair.  Follow along as Ensign Pullover and the strangely metamorphic android, Marwigo, as they put together a rousing welcome for our "new recruits"!  There is a light sabre battle, strange potions, weird ladies in the "pale of poetry" and a dramatic encounter with a spacenosaur and a dodge ball arena.  Don't miss it!  Link:  https://youtu.be/q5ULh496Eak

Presenting . . . "A Galaxy Not That Far Away"

 Journal #6:

Everyone!  You must submit a media consent form if you have not already done so.  If you don't, we can't release our opus to the world!  Make sure you take it to the office a.s.a.p. because the days are waning to a precious few.

The journal topic this week is, of course, what did you contribute to "A Galaxy Not That Far Away"?  Make a list of the things you did.  (Try to think of everything that you did.)

Who would you say contributed the most?  Why do you think so?  Which scene is your favourite?  Explain why.  Imagine you are a grade 7 student -- what would you take away from the film?

LET'S NOT SLACK OFF IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS!  LIKE THE MILWAUKEE BUCKS -- YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO PUSH FORWARD AND DO BETTER EVERY SINGLE DAY!  (That's my new found interest in the NBA coming out.)
